Services

My name is Gemma. I am a fully qualified counsellor working in Private Practice in St Albans and Bushey.

I work creatively, coming from a Humanistic approach, incorporating Person-Centred but specialising in Gestalt therapy. With this I work by thinking about you as a whole person including physical responses. I believe that body and mind are connected and that it is beneficial to work with both in the counselling room.

I am a qualified adoption support counsellor, having completed further training, and can support adults wanting to explore the impact of adoption and fostering, whether as an adoptee, an adopter, a birth family member, or an experience of fostering or SGO and kinship care.

I have a special interest in working with young people. I have been doing so in a therapy setting for the last 11 years. Before qualifying as a counsellor, I worked in secondary schools. I worked closely with young people with neurodivergent conditions such as Autism and ADHD. I understand the demands that young people can face in today's society from many different areas of life.

I can offer a young person a chance to discuss things with somebody who isn’t connected to them and without judgement. This can help with feeling more comfortable and therefore able to engage with the work. This space can be somewhere they can try and make sense of things that may seem overwhelming.

I work with adults as well as young young people and have supported those who have been suffering from issues including anxiety, self-harm, suicidal ideation, low self-esteem, ADHD, life choices, emotional abuse, dissociation, family issues and bereavement.

Supervision
If you would like support with your clinical practice, I can offer this.
I provide a warm space that enables genuine connection with my supervisees. I encourage working at depth so you can reflect and get the most out of your clinical work. This is a place where you can be honest, bring your growing edges, and explore them with me without judgement. This may also include looking at your own process.

Alongside my therapeutic work, I support students in training who are on placement at a CIC low‑cost counselling service. I find this enjoyable, rewarding, and valuable experience in developing my supervisory skills.

I am currently training to be a supervisor and am gaining my placement hours. While in training, I am offering a low‑cost fee until I am fully qualified.
